Master of Public Administration, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 1989

Teaching is my second career.  After college, I spent 10 years working in the Federal Government as a analyst.  I left federal service to raise my children.  When I decided to go back to work outside the home, I wanted to choose a career I felt helped people to better themselves.  I greatly enjoyed volunteering in the schools, so teaching was a natural fit.

This is my 6th year teaching at Consuelo Mendez Middle School.  I have worked and volunteered in AISD since 2003.  I began tutoring 6th grade Math at Mendez before joining the Special Education Department.  I have taught 6th and 7th grade math in addition to providing inclusion support in 6th, 7th and 8th grade Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Social Studies classrooms. This year I teach 6th grade Math and Advanced Math classes.

I was born and raised in Des Moines, IA in a blue collar household.  I was the first in my family to graduate from college.  My husband, Ron, and I married in 1990, and we have two children who have both attended AISD schools.  My daughter is a freshman at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.  In addition to teaching, I volunteer with youth through our church and other community service organizations.
